An inspiring and a heart warming story

Katharine Hepburn’s childhood, in her own words.
“Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus.
Finally, there was only one other family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me.
There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. The way they were dressed, you could tell they didn't have a lot of money, but their clothes were neat and clean.
The children were  well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their  parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns,  animals, and all the acts they would be seeing that night. By their  excitement you could sense they had never been to the circus before. It  would be a highlight of their lives.
The father and mother were at the head of the pack standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say,  "You're my knight in shining armour." He was smiling and enjoying seeing  his family happy.
The ticket lady asked the man how many tickets he wanted? He proudly responded, "I'd like to buy  eight children's tickets and two adult tickets, so I can take my family  to the circus." The ticket lady stated the price.
The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, the man's lip began to quiver. Then he leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you  say?" The ticket lady again stated the price.
The man didn't have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his  eight kids that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus?
Seeing what was going on, my dad reached into his pocket, pulled out a $20  bill, and then dropped it on the ground. (We were not wealthy in any  sense of the word!) My father bent down, picked up the $20 bill, tapped  the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket."
The man understood what was going on. He wasn't begging for a handout but certainly appreciated the help in a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation.
He looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his,  squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lip quivering and a  tear streaming down his cheek, he replied; "Thank you, thank you, sir.  This really means a lot to me and my family."
My father and I went back to our car and drove home. The $20 that my dad  gave away is what we were going to buy our own tickets with.
Although we didn't get to see the circus that night, we both felt a joy inside  us that was far greater than seeing the circus could ever provide.
That day I learnt the value to Give.
The Giver is bigger than the Receiver. If you want to be large, larger than life, learn to Give. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything.
The importance of giving, blessing others can never be over emphasised because there's always joy in giving.  Learn to make someone happy by  acts of giving.”

Lady of Ransom, Kanyakumari

This Sunday is the feast of Lady of Ransom also called Alankara Matha at Kanyakumari. This video is from Saturday night service.
You may notice the similarity of name with our Basilica at Vallarpadam. Perhaps built by the same Mercedarian priests of Vallarpadam from the 16th Century. The old church at Kanyakumari goes back to that century.

BMV D Mercede

One of the basic requirements for the pilgrimage to Vallarpadam is to have a clean heart achieved through offering of the sacrifice of our Lord everyday for the atonement of everything that we think and do in our human nature that are away from the nature of our Creator.

The Mercedarians who set up and consecrated the altar at Vallarpadam were even ready to die for the enslaved by taking their place in slavery to set them free.

Please never forget their state of mind and the requirement of a pure heart on your pilgrim.

Vallarpadam church is dedicated to Holy Ghost. It is the first church in Asia to be so dedicated. Naturally, on the day of Pentecost, there were many Pilgrims. I was fortunate to reach there early on the day. Still, I couldn't find a seat inside the church. Luckily, there were extra loudspeakers fixed for the day which helped the likes of me to attend the mass sitting inside the new church where the service was very audible. Thank you Organizers for your thoughtfulness.

Believe in Him

Today, 29th May, 2023 at St. Antony's the sermon after the Novena was very good. The priest  illustrated about Jesus, His mercy and why we should Believe in Him to get over the troubles and difficulties in our lives.

He started with Cane and Abel and how God was ready to show mercy on the murderous brother. Then he came to Jesus telling us about how the blind man cried out, "Son of David, show mercy on me" and Jesus replying, "Yes, I have the mind" and the blind getting sight. Then the priest moved on to how Jesus read the broken heart of the widow whose son has died and goes to the corpse and brings him back to the life without being asked. Again, how Jesus felt pity for the girl who was resurrected and asked their family  "give her something to eat, she must be hungry." In another example of the caring and merciful nature of Jesus, the priest talked about how the keys of His kingdom was offered to the very man who disowned Him thrice, which is Peter; how He called the man who betrayed Him as a "Friend"; eventually He prays for those who insulted and murdered Him while He was on the Cross.

The Message is simple and clear. Believe in Him, He is capable and He will show us Mercy no matter how bad our situations are and how far we are from Him.

For those of us who are finding it difficult with life and its situations, the message was simple and it did console and encourage me.

Thank you!

For those of us who fail to do what they have to do and suffer inspire of trying very hard.

At times, life and its situations can overwhelm us. Even the most steadfast among us may feel, the God we trust in has abandoned us.

My God, my God, why did you forsake me?

Why do You seems to be so far away from me;

Not helping me; not listening to my pleading.”

Psalms 22:1

The generations who have gone before us had also come across such phases of despair when all had seemed lost.

But they endured and survived, in faith.

3 “But you are enthroned as the Holy One,

The One whom Israel praises.

4 Our ancestors put their trust in You;

They trusted You and You saved them.

5 They called to You and were not disappointed. “

Psalms 22:3-5

Please do not be disappointed or give up in life.

“Endure and  Survive” in faith.
